Mole Removal Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best treatment option for mole removal?2024-05-30T05:07:13-08:00

There are a lot of popular mole removal treatments that are commonly used at dermatologist offices and medical spas. Some of these treatments include shaving off a mole, cutting off a mole or freezing off a mole. These treatments are effective but often leave severe scarring due to how harsh they are on the skin. At Mole Removal Orange County we use an advanced technology called radio frequency ablation, which is similar to a laser but more precise. With this technology our surgeon is able to remove the mole at the root, making sure to get all of it. This treatment is gentle on the skin and leaves minimal to no scarring.

Why does someone get their mole and skin tag removed?2024-05-30T05:06:49-08:00

There are many reasons why people decide to get their mole and skin tag removed. One major reason is because of the discomfort and pain the mole and skin tag can cause in one’s life. If the mole and skin tag is located on one’s neck it can often get caught on their necklace or if the skin lesion is on their back it can get irritated when someone puts on their bra. Another reason people decide to get their mole and skin tag removed is because it can be a big insecurity, especially if the skin lesion is located on a prominent part of the face. We have had a lot of patients who have been insecure about a big mole on their face and are so happy when they finally decide to get it removed. Whatever your reason may be for getting your mole and skin tag removed, we are here to help you have healthy, smooth, radiant skin.

What’s the difference between a skin tag and a mole?2024-05-30T05:06:20-08:00

Moles and skin tags are both extremely common skin lesions, however they differ in various aspects, such as texture and size. A mole is a skin growth that appears on different parts of the body and face. Moles can be flat or raised and usually have different shades of black and brown. Unlike skin tags, moles have a high risk of becoming cancerous. It is important to get your mole looked at by a medical professional. Skin tags are harmless skin growths that are made of cells that grow together in clusters in a raised manner. Skin tags are always raised, never flat. Skin tags tend to grow in areas where skin rubs against each other and causes friction.

Is the procedure painful?2021-11-17T05:06:45-08:00

Our mole and skin tag removal procedures are not painful. To avoid any type of discomfort, our surgeon will numb the area of the procedure with a tiny injection.

How long does it take for the area of the procedure to be fully healed?2021-11-17T05:05:17-08:00

If you follow our after-care instructions precisely, the area will be fully healed in just four weeks! We always send our patients home with recovery skincare and instructions for optimal healing results. It is important to keep the area of the removal clean and apply the recovery skincare given. We recommend our patients to keep the area dry and to avoid sun exposure for a couple days after the procedure.

Learn More About Skin Tag & Mole Removal in Irvine, CA

What are moles?
Moles are very common and you may see them on people throughout their entire lives. They are all uniquely shaped, have varying colors and appear in different spots on the body. But, what are they exactly? The medical term for moles are nevus. They are noncancerous skin growths that develop when melanocytes, the type of cells that give skin its color, bind together and form clusters instead of just remaining separated and distributed throughout the epidermis, your skin layer. Most people have some type of moles that they are born with or appear later on during their adult life. These skin growths may appear on different parts of the body and face. Moles range in size, texture and color. Some moles are flat, others are raised and have a rough texture. Moles are usually different shades of black and brown and grow on various parts of the body. These common models rarely become cancerous or turn into melanoma, but it’s important to always check them out. At Mole Removal Orange County we precisely remove moles on the face, back, neck, underarm, arms, nose and other parts of the body. No one knows what causes moles exactly but genetics is a huge factor. Lots of people try to remove moles at home by themselves. This is extremely dangerous. It is important to get your mole looked at and treated by a medical professional. At home mole removals can lead to infections and severe scarring. We use a technology called radiofrequency ablation which allows for a precise and effective mole removal. Get your mole looked at by our board-certified surgeon and get your mole removal treatment scheduled!

What do common moles look like?

  • Shaped in a round or oval circle
  • Symmetrical, which means if you were to cut a mole in half it would be even on each side
  • Consistent color and tone, whether that be black, brown, tan, beige, pinkish
  • Smooth skin texture
  • Distinct borders and clearly defined edges
  • Smaller than a chocolate chip size or pencil eraser (approximately .25 inches in diameter)

What are skin tags?
Skin tags, also known as Acrochordons, are another type of benign, harmless skin growths that are made of cells that grow together in clusters in a raised manner. Unlike moles, skin tags are usually made up of skin, fat, fibrous tissues and oftentimes blood vessels. They are typically flesh colored and hang off the body, because they are attached to a stalk also known as a pedicle. Skin tags grow in areas where skin rubs against each other and causes friction. We remove skin tags on any area of the body, including neck, underarms, eyelid, nose, back and chest. Although skin tags are harmless they are often treated due to the discomfort, pain and insecurity they can cause on a daily basis. Skin tags grow based on various factors, such as genetics. Individuals have a higher chance of growing skin tags if they suffer from diseases such as diabetes or high blood pressure. Women who are pregnant also tend to grow skin tags during their pregnancy. This is because of the friction that is caused when skin rubs against each other.

When should I remove a skin tag?

  • Becomes irritated, swollen or starts to bleed
  • Gets caught on clothing or jewelry
  • Skin tags develop on your eyelid or near your eyes and affect your eyesight
  • Painful skin tags start to affect your daily life
  • Skin tags that develop into large clusters of 10 or more
